Wonder Women: Sex, Power and the Quest for Perfection Debora L. Spar, President of Barnard College Monday, 26 January 2015, 6.00pm Saïd Business School Inspiring Women in Leadership and Learning and the Oxford Business Network for Women's Leadership are happy to welcome Debora L. Spar, President of Barnard College, to Saïd Business School. Spar will speak around themes in her book Wonder Women: Sex, Power and the Quest for Perfection. Spar is a vocal proponent of women's education and leadership, spearheading several initiatives that include the Athena Center for Leadership Studies, an interdisciplinary centre devoted to the theory and practice of women's leadership, and the Barnard Global Symposium series, an annual gathering of high-profile female leaders held each year in a different region of the world. A member of the Academy of Arts and Science, and director of Goldman Sachs, Spar's scholarly research focusses on issues of international political economy, examining how rules are established in new or emerging markets and how firms and governments together shape the evolving global economy. Prior to her presidency at Barnard College, Spar was the Spangler Family Professor of Business Administration and has served as senior associate dean for faculty research and development at Harvard Business School. At Harvard she taught courses on the politics of international business, comparative capitalism and economic development. Spar's lecture begins with an introduction by Dean Peter Tufano and is followed by a Q&A session and drinks reception. Members from Saïd Business School and the wider community of Oxford University are encouraged to attend. The School also wishes to extend a warm welcome to the UK alumnae of Barnard College.
