Over the past decades, considerable progress has been made in the product design and development process, including idea generation, prototyping, business analysis, market analysis, and commercialisation. These developments would be expected to lower the failure rate for new products, yet the product failure rate has remained high and constant, with estimates place it at roughly 85% for consumer goods.

Rachel Abernethy from the Oxford Product Design will talk about the usual stages of the product design process, the influence on 3D printing in product design, and different methods in the product development process. More importantly, the reasons why products fail to make it to market and after they are introduced to the market.
