Dr Steve Perry, Founder and Co-Creator, Visa Europe Innovation Hub asks, WHY DID PAYMENTS BECOME SEXY? Steve is the founder of Visa Europe’s Innovation Hub, a new initiative designed to identify and commercialise the most promising innovations in fintech, using a unique network of collaborative partners and the power of the Visa network to take them from concept to reality. Steve has held multiple leadership positions in Visa since joining the organisation in 1990. Most recently he was Chief Digital Officer, leading business plans and strategies across Visa’s markets, with a team present in 23 countries. Prior to that he held the role of Chief Financial Officer. Steve directed Visa’s preparations for the single European currency, working with Visa’s members to ensure transition was smooth and cost-effective and made the world’s first Euro transaction in 1999. Before joining Visa, Steve was Group Economist for the TSB group. Steve holds a Master’s degree in economics from the University of London and a doctorate in the same subject from the University of Keele. He is Chairman of TheySay Analytics, a technology start-up, and a Non-Executive Director for CAF Bank. Steve was previously Vice Chair of E-ACT an education foundation and charity, running 30 Academies in the UK, and has been a Director of TheCityUK and the 2012 Social Legacy Board (2012 Olymppic Games). Steve was awarded the title of Cavaliere by the President of Italy in July 2005.
