The Front Line Research Workforce: Career Development and Support Needs We know that research nurses and other health professionals play an important role in clinical research, but do we know how best to support and develop this invaluable group of professionals? Professor Mary Boulton, Professor of Health Sociology at Oxford Brookes University, has conducted a major study across the Thames Valley region to gain a better understanding of the work experience, career aspirations and training needs of the front line staff who support clinical research activity in many local health settings. Her findings have implications for their employers, academics, policy makers and everyone who is committed to excellence in the development of knowledge to improve patient care. Mary will be disseminating her work to a panel of experts and an invited audience in Oxford. This will be a great opportunity to hear her findings; participate in a debate on the implications of the work with senior thought leaders from across the clinical academic world; and to network with a lively group of local professional colleagues.
