The Science & Technology Facilities Council's ISIS Department, supported by Diamond Light Source, RAL Space and STFC Programmes Directorate invites you to attend the third in a series of annual campus project management workshops which are being held with the objective of building a local project management community. This year’s free event will focus on project Risk Management Speakers at this event are: Jeremy Harrison (Director of Risk for HS2) Sean Langridge (representing UK European Spallation Source) Christopher Townsley (Project Manager of the Cherenkov Telescope Array) Lindsay Sedwards (ISIS Deputy Radioactive Waste Manager) The following these plenary sessions the morning will conclude with an interactive, ‘Question Time’ style, discussion. After a complimentary lunch, the afternoon will be given over to a breakout workshop followed by a mini tour of the ISIS Second Target Station and its suite of 11 instruments. In addition to the formal structure of the day, there will be plenty of opportunity to network with project professionals from a similar scientific milieu, during the refreshment and lunch breaks. All projects have uncertainties, particularly those involved with innovation. The skill of the Project Manager is to recognise how those uncertainties morph into project risks – ‘An uncertain event or set of circumstances that, should it occur, will have an effect on achievement of one or more objectives’ – (APM Body of Knowledge 6th Edition). The key to managing a project is not to avoid risks, but to understand them. ‘There are known knowns . . . things we know that we know. There are known unknowns . . . things that we know we don't know; but there are also unknown unknowns . . . things we don't know we don't know.’ – Donald Rumsfeld DRAFT TIMETABLE: 09:00 – 09:30 Registration 09:30 – 09:45 Welcome 09:45 – 10:15 Speaker 1 10:15 – 10:45 Speaker 2 10:45 – 11:00 Refreshments 11:00 – 11:30 Speaker 3 11:30 – 12:00 Speaker 4 12:00 – 12:30 Question Time 12:30 – 13:30 Lunch 13:30 – 15:30 Workshop 15:30 – 15:45 Close out 15:45 – 17:00 Mini tour of ISIS Target Station II FAQs Where can I contact the organiser with any questions? ian.mitchell@stfc.ac.uk, +44 7795 120808, +44 1235 778198 Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
