Microplastics, which are small particles or fragments of plastics up to 5 mm in diameter, are generated from various sources and accumulate in the environment, including large bodies of waters in the world. One of the major issues of microplastics is its longevity and persistence. Once created and spread in the environment, they are difficult to reclaim and can linger for a very long time with as yet unknown consequences. Fully bio-based and biodegradable plastics replacement Nodax™, which has recently been introduced by MHG, Inc. and has received the world’s first and currently only certification of Vinçotte marine degradation, may provide the much needed answer. At this seminar Mr Paul A. Pereira and Dr Isao Noda will give a presentation regarding the advances and innovative technologies that MHG has to offer for production of bioplastics and sustainable feedstocks. About the Speakers: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board Chairman Paul Antonio Pereira, a trade, telecom, and energy veteran, joined the Executive Team of MHG in 2013 to provide leadership and guidance with the objective of propelling the biopolymer manufacturer to world-class status and value. As an entrepreneur who also serves as Chairman of Alton Worldwide, a global business development firm based in Miami, Pereira brings with him an impressive track record of creating value in existing companies and startup businesses. Read More. Award-winning scientist Dr. Isao Noda, inventor of NodaxTM PHA biopolymer, came to MHG after a distinguished, three-decade career at Procter & Gamble. Noda is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities in the field of polymer science and spectroscopy. During his work with two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) correlation spectroscopy, Noda pioneered development of a specific type of PHA known as medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoates (mcl-PHA). Noda holds over 90 patents in the European Union and the U.S., has published over 300 articles and has co-authored three books. Noda received a Ph.D. and B.Sc. in chemical engineering, a M.Sc. in bioengineering, and a M.Phil. from Columbia University, as well as a D.Sc. Degree in chemistry from the University of Tokyo. In addition to his groundbreaking scientific work at MHG, Noda serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Delaware.
