The Africa OBN is proud to present a Private Equity panel discussion with some of the leading private equity firms on the African continent. Our distinguished panel will draw on their combined 60+ years of experience in Private Equity and Investment Banking to shed light on the challenges, opportunities and successes of investing in Africa.

About the Panel

Murray Grant is Managing Director at CDC responsible for their Intermediated Equity business. The team of 25 executives manage a portfolio of 100+ fund managers which in turn have invested in over 1,100 companies across Africa and South Asia. Prior to CDC Murray was one of the founding partners at Actis prior to which he spent 13 years with 3i. He is an engineer by background with hands on problem solving experience on large infrastructure projects. He has a BSc (Hons) in Engineering from Edinburgh University and an MBA from London Business School.

Yann Rogombe is an Investment Professional and founding member of Africa Capitalworks. He has eleven years of private equity and investment banking experience. Prior to joining Africa Capitalworks, Yann spent four years as a member of the investment team of Helios Investment Partners, investing in various sectors across Africa. Prior to this, Yann was a member of the M&A team focussing on the Natural Resources sector at Deutsche Bank in London. Yann is a dual Gabonese and British citizen and has a Master of Science in Management from Reims Management School in France. He is fluent in French and English.

Romain Py leads AIIM Investment Team and is responsible for originating and executing investments across the African continent. AIIM manages circa USD 2.0 billion extending across a track record of seven infrastructure funds, which are designed to invest long-term institutional unlisted equity in African infrastructure projects. Romain has an in-depth knowledge of infrastructure sub-sectors and was one of the founding members of the JPMorgan Infrastructure Investments Group. Romain has played a key role in AIIF3 seed investment and represents AIIM as a director on the boards of African Ports & Corridors Holdings, DSM Corridor Group, Albatros Energy Mali and AIIM Hydroneo. Romain holds an MSc in Corporate Finance and an MSc in International Economics.
