About Gary Frank

"I graduated from Oxford university having studied Philosophy and Psychology and then went to New York to work on Wall Street. I traded futures on the NYSE until 1987 when I returned to the UK. In May of 1989 I set up the Delicious Donut Co in a small industrial unit in Witney. DDC grew very successfully supplying cakes and snacks to the catering and convenience sectors. In 1997 we rebranded as the Fabulous Bakin' Boys with the goal of breaking into the supermarkets. FBB went on to supply all the mults and become the biggest independent brand in cake, reaching sales of £17M and employing over 120 people. We sold the business in April 2014 to a Dutch bakery.

I've only ever worked for myself, wouldn't have it any other way and have learnt a fair bit in my 35 or so years of business: it's absolutely true that every cloud has a silver lining; there's nothing more satisfying then seeing someone pick up one of your products in a shop and thinking "we made that"; employ the best possible people you can afford, because you get what you pay for; and remind yourself every day that unless you're business is working on a cure for cancer, it's really, really not that important! I enjoy tennis, cycling, skiing, mountain biking, reading, movies, cooking and travelling; and I have 3 teen age boys and bringing up boys is way more difficult than running a business…"
