Science seldom exists in a vacuum – working with other ‘stakeholder’ groups brings many benefits not to mention the potential for funding. Ensuring you have the right message for the right person in a language they can understand will help build relationships. A personal history of collaboration and funding is increasingly sought after on fellowship and lectureship applications. Equally communication with suppliers and customers is a cornerstone of good business practice.
This course aims to get you thinking about widening your research through collaboration with others (academics, companies, charities, patients…). This may well lead to investment (travel funds, equipment, expertise, grants). Topics covered include: •Mapping out research communication channels •A communications strategy •Communicating your research to a variety of audiences •Adapting your message Objectives: By the end of this course participants will be able to •Identify communication routes with potential partners •Think about the partner’s perspective •Adapt their message appropriately
