Distinguished Speaker Series Jeremy Grantham Irrational Avoidance of the Unpleasant: Attitudes to Investing, Resource Limitation and Global Warming Wednesday 1 April 2015, 5.30pm Jeremy Grantham is one of the world’s legendary investment managers – as well as a leading environmental analyst and philanthropist. He cofounded Grantham Mayo van Otterloo (GMO) in 1977, adopting a highly disciplined investment management approach. His investment philosophy is based on detailed empirical analysis of long-horizon trends. This evidence-based approach has permitted GMO to hold strong opinions, often contrarian to others, about market fads and fashions. Mr. Grantham has used the same evidence based, long-horizon thinking approach to understand issues in the environment. In 1997, he established the Grantham Foundation For the Protection of the Environment, which in turn has funded the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. He writes regularly about both investment trends and the environment. Jeremy will be speaking at Saïd Business School on 1 April 2015 as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series about how our preference for good use impacts markets, commodities and our attitudes toward climate change.
