Oxford Hub is delighted to work with the University of Oxford's Research Services to offer Oxford University staff and students the Social Enterprise Awards.
What are the Social Enterprise Awards?
The awards help individuals and teams to take action and make the world a better place. Since 2013, 37 different ventures have been supported, from a community cafe to a soap recycling enterprise. You can find examples of our award winners featured on Enterprising Oxford's website, including Project Soup, Common Ground, Language Amigo, Pick Me Up Parcels and SociAbility.
Through the Award Scheme we offer social entrepreneurs:
Funding: depending on whether your proposal is a vague plan or a tried and tested model, we have two options. The first is a Try It award of up to £500, or secondly you may apply for a Do It Award of up to £5000.
Support: including one-to-one check ins with staff from Oxford Hub, introductions to our network, free publicity and free room hire at our home on Turl Street.
Community: the opportunity to join a community of ambitious individuals tackling social and environmental issues in Oxford, whether through social enterprise, placements, or volunteering. Find us at speaker panels, socials, fundraisers and more – stay up to date with our latest events by subscribing to our newsletter and liking us on Facebook.
Please note, if you don't have an idea of your own then you may be interested in joining one of our Social Enterprise Challenges where small teams can work on a set brief together to benefit another local social enterprise.
How to apply for a Social Enterprise Award
Express your interest by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We can then arrange a time to meet and discuss your idea and the application process.
After this you will be asked to complete a written application form which summarises your project, how it benefits the local community, and your plans to develop it moving forward. The deadline to have completed this is Wednesday 29th May.
Applications will then be reviewed by a panel of judges including Oxford Hub and Oxford University staff, as well as innovators in the local social enterprise sector.
We will notify you of the result of your application and provide any feedback in mid-June. If you are successful, we will invite you for an induction session at Oxford Hub.
Over the subsequent 12 months we will have quarterly check ins with award winners to report on progress and troubleshoot challenges. Additionally, award winners are expected to give back and help raise the profile of social entrepreneurship at Oxford University. This could involve sharing your experiences of social enterprise at one of our events, writing for our blog, or working in another way of your choosing.
To participate, you must currently be a student (of any discipline, undergraduate or postgraduate) or staff member at Oxford University. We are an inclusive organisation and can make reasonable adjustments to application processes, interviews, training sessions and other activities on a case-by-case basis. We also provide ongoing support for the individuals we work with, so if you have particular accessibility needs, please do get in touch.
