On 18 October 2016 the University is launching the 2016/17 Carbon Innovation Programme to support its carbon reduction target of 33% by 2021 (against a 2005/6 baseline). The launch will be followed by two workshops and shadowed by 3 more informal catch up sessions for those that cannot make the evening events. The Carbon Innovation Programme is an exciting opportunity for staff and students to develop and propose ideas for reducing building energy use and associated carbon emissions (Scope 1 and 2 emissions) across the University functional estate.

If projects are viable they may be awarded funding to implement them. Successful projects may be awarded a Carbon Innovator Award at the Sustainability Showcase Awards Evening. This is a unique opportunity to receive training and support from industry and academic experts, to work on real-life scenarios and projects which will provide transferable skills and boost your CV. Individuals who present successful projects may have the opportunity to discuss career opportunities with the programme sponsors Siemens and Hoare Lea. Workshop 2 Innovation Works will be delivering this training using 'Design Thinking' methodology. The goal of this workshop is to use the inspiration to look at ideas again, reinforce the prototyping/experimental method, and give groups some help with making choices and move towards finding ways of testing the concepts.
