Join us for this enlightening talk where Dr Samantha Hiew teaches us about ADHD in the modern world.

A simple scroll through Instagram or TikTok and you’ll be left questioning: do I have ADHD? The rise in ADHD in adults is undeniable. But only over the last decade has ADHD been formally recognised in the UK. According to ADHD UK charity, there is a total estimate of 2.6 million people in the UK with ADHD. But only approximately 10-20% of individuals with ADHD will be treated.

The ADHD crisis in the UK points to a bottleneck in diagnosis, lack of support and those diagnosed with ADHD later in life are then faced with a century-old stigma.

The talk goes into the neuroscience and neurochemistry that explains the ADHD traits you see, how self medicating behaviours can look like “culture”, how it presents differently in women than men, to building your own ADHD owner’s manual.

This talk destigmatises ADHD and highlights how living in a neurotypical world has not worked for us, how knowing how our brain is wired can help us understand, accept, and have compassion towards ourselves.

Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm – Come down early to grab a good seat!

Her work received multiple nominations of Stereotype Buster and Community Choice Awards at the 2022 Celebrating Neurodiversity Awards.
