This workshop will be an opportunity to share knowledge and best practice, to connect with colleagues with an interest in mentoring and to explore how best to support mentoring in the University.

There will be a mixture of presentations from both internal and external speakers, alongside opportunities to share experiences, challenges and questions through small-group discussion.

Programme

9.30 – 9.40 – Registration and coffee

9.40 – 9.45 – Introduction to the event

9.45 – 10.05 – Review of the effectiveness of mentoring schemes in the University (Dr Alvin Leung, Monitoring and Evaluation Co-ordinator, EDU)

10.05 – 10.55 – Sharing experiences of establishing mentoring schemes in the University – panel presentation and Q&A featuring Professional Services Mentoring Scheme, and School of Geography and the Environment mentoring scheme

10.55 – 11.10 – Coffee break

11.10 – 11.50 – Small group discussions: Challenges of establishing, running and sustaining mentoring schemes and how to address these.

11.50 – 12.20 – Making mentoring schemes sustainable: why networks play a role (Dr Judie Gannon, Senior Lecturer, International Centre for Coaching and Mentoring Studies, Oxford Brookes University)

12.20 – 13.00 – Small group discussions: The future of mentoring at Oxford.

13.00 – 14.00 – Networking lunch

Please note that this will be an in-person event, though we hope to record the presentations.

Speaker bio

Dr Judie Gannon leads the Doctorate in Coaching and Mentoring in the International Centre for Coaching & Mentoring Studies (ICCaMS) in the Oxford Brookes Business School, Oxford Brookes University, UK. She has operated a range of different mentoring initiatives and acts as an advocate for mentoring and coaching programme managers. Judie is the editor in chief of the peer-reviewed International Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring and her research interests, publications and consultancy cover the areas of sustainability and activism as part of coaching and mentoring interventions.
