‘From What Is to What If’ – a conversation with activist and environmentalist Rob Hopkins .
About this Event
Rob Hopkins is an environmentalist and author, and the cofounder of Transition Network, a global movement of communities stepping up to address the big challenges they face by starting local. An Ashoka fellow, Hopkins is the author of books including The Power of Just Doing Stuff, The Transition Handbook, and most recently ‘From What is to What If: Unleashing the power of imagination to create the future we want’.
Rob will introduce ideas from the book, in which he proposes asking ‘what if’ questions to evoke our collective imagination, reinvigorate hope in social change, and to provoke action.
For instance, what if we could think of car-free cities, no prisons and a more equal distribution of wealth?
The talk will be framed in the context of the covid pandemic and the opportunities for change that this global event has triggered. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of the session.
Rob will be in conversation with Henry Owen. Henry is the lead coordinator at Community Action Groups (CAG) Oxfordshire, which is one of six eScalate hubs across the county.
CAG consists of over 70 groups across Oxfordshire who are at the forefront of community led climate change action tackling issues including waste, transport, food, energy, biodiversity and social justice.
