Responsible Leadership Seminar: Justin King CBE The Myth of Change: Business and responsibility in the 21st century
Saïd Business School is pleased to welcome Justin King CBE, former CEO of Sainsbury's plc and Vice Chair of Terra Firma, to speak at the School on Monday 12 June as part of the Responsible Leadership Seminar series.
What are the responsibilities of business? What should business leaders hold themselves responsible for, and to whom? In his talk Justin King CBE will talk about the practices of business today, and the ways in which the changes that are being put in place by businesses are in many instances either ignoring or - even worse - recreating the problems of the past.
He brings to the subject a serious perspective on what needs to change if business is to regain a position of trust, and insights into what you - as future leaders - need to consider. About the event Please note the slightly earlier start time of 5.30pm due to Mr King's schedule. The seminar is open for anyone to attend and will take place at Saïd Business School on Monday 12 June followed by a short networking drinks reception until around 7.15pm. Please remember that registration is required to attend this event. About the speaker Justin was the CEO of Sainsbury’s between 2004 and 2014 where he led the business through a major turnaround which led to nine years of profit growth. Before joining Sainsbury’s, he held prior roles at Marks & Spencer, PepsiCo and Mars in a thirty-year career spanning consumer goods and grocery retailing. Justin is a member of the Public Interest Body of PwC. He has previously served as a director of Staples and a board member of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and was on the audit committee of both organisations. He was also a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group. Justin is well known for his interest in motorsport and played a key role in the recovery of the Marrusia Formula One team (now Manor Racing Formula One team) through a company voluntary arrangement and served as its interim chairman. Justin received an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Bath where he was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration in 2009. Justin was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) by the Queen in 2011. In 2013, Justin was named Most Admired Business Leader by Management Today as well as Britain’s Most Impressive Businessman in the IPSOS-MORI Captains of Industry Report.
