Grassroots funding at its finest, Oxfordshire SOUP is Crowdfunding meets Dragons Den for small businesses. SOUP is a global movement which enables communities to disrupt the status quo and raise small scale investment for new businesses or ideas they collectively vote for. The format is simple. You come along, pay a small fee and listen to 3 or 4 ambitious businesses pitch their idea.

Pitchers each have the floor for up to four minutes, and must rely on their passion, their speaking abilities and the way their can articulate their business to win over the audience – no gadgets, give-aways or PowerPoint. The audience can then ask a maximum of four questions to try to establish which business is most worthy of investment. With the presentations over, lunch is served. This is an opportunity for you to meet your fellow funders and mull over the ideas before choosing the business you feel is most worthy of your investment. You will vote by placing your token into the corresponding box. The winning business gets to take home all the money taken at the door, as well a £250 donated by our sponsor Oxfordshire Business Support (part of the OxLEP) and a support package devised to help them support their plans for growth. The only promise we ask is that they will come back three months later to report on their progress. Click here to download the application form to pitch. THE PRIZE This time we're not charging VAT! You know how it works, the more tickets we sell, the bigger the prize! - 50 tickets sold = £900 prize / 25 tickets sold = £450 - Sponsor, Oxfordshire Business Support = £250 SPONSOR Oxfordshire Business Support Oxfordshire Business Support (OBS) is the Growth Hub for Oxfordshire provided through the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP). We help businesses to navigate around the complicated and often confusing business support landscape, and find the support they need to start up and grow. We do this by: Signposting to local and national business support services, schemes and events Provide specialist advice and guidance through our team of Network Navigators Running events and workshops on a variety of topics Our services are completely free for businesses and start-ups in Oxfordshire. Why does Oxfordshire need a Growth Hub? Research has shown that businesses find the current landscape of business support confusing, and are unsure whether they need support or which support they might need. Growth Hubs act as independent brokers to signpost businesses to the support that is best for them. How are we funded? OBS has previously received funding through the Regional Growth Fund (RGF). Currently OBS is receiving funding through the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and we have also secured ERDF funding to take us through to 2019. Can I get funding through OBS? From time to time OBS may have available funds to make grants to SMEs. When we do not have funds to distribute to SMEs we will instead signpost you to any local and national funding sources that are currently available. West Oxfordshire District Council West Oxfordshire is a pro-business district council that recognises the vital importance of small businesses as the lifeblood of the local economy.
